INXS took an unexpected turn towards darker and more complex sounds with 'The Swing' (1984). Although the album contains some hints of the future colossal hits like "I Send a Message," "What You Need," and "Need You Tonight," the album is overall avant-garde, and at times even impenetrable. A decisive step in the band's career, heralding the international success that would follow.
