Idlewild's 10th self-titled album begins in medias res, with Rod Jones's guitar crackling and moaning, the sound suspended in the air until singer Roddy Woomble seizes it with the first of the sparkling and inimitable hooks of Stay Out of Place. Immediately, there’s a sense of a band in motion, whose historical past is not an anchor but a spur. Idlewild's songs provide a series of compelling answers: "Everything adds up to the present moment, doesn’t it?" Woomble asks.
