No matter your age or situation, Supermodels is the kind of record you can relate to. The second album by Claud, an artist from Chicago now living in New York, is a captivating and poignant diary about life and love in your early twenties, whether it’s the doubt that seeps into their songs or the place of compromise they try to find. It’s an accurate map of the emotional and logistical ups and downs Claud faced in their early twenties. Each of these 13 songs is another journal entry, woven with little regard for genre, the rollercoaster of feelings giving each track a uniquely heavy gravity. These are familiar subjects for Claud. But there’s a new confidence in the ideas, presented in structures and hooks that aren’t afraid to shift from scrappy folk to fiery pop or twisted piano curiosities. The album was recorded with a team of collaborators who made it shine with brilliant productions. Claud holds nothing back on Supermodels. These are cores of despair, redemption, and ultimately, insight, reminding us that we are neither the first nor the last to face this blues and keep moving forward.
