Tropical Desert is the debut album by the Indonesian instrumental group BABON, a captivating collection of narratives exploring environmental collapse and social disintegration. Stories of frustration and despair in the face of environmental collapse, this album is a stark warning and an invitation to rekindle our relationship with our environment. The group was formed by Rayi and Wahyudi, later joined by Rori. Their journey began as high school friends and continued throughout their university years in Melbourne, where they were immersed in the city’s diverse musical and instrumental scenes. Their passion for music grew alongside their involvement in agroforestry and sustainable development projects - experiences that deeply influenced their creative direction. This dual exposure to sound and environment shaped their approach to musical storytelling. Through Rori’s expressive guitar contribution, BABON expanded their sonic depth and emotional palette, elevating both their live and recorded performances.
