Ariel Pink is one of those rock activists who, from their home studio, churn out melodies using all the available equipment. But unlike his peers Daniel Johnston or Lou Barlow, the California multi-instrumentalist shows a clear penchant for 70's vintage pop, bringing him closer to a Devendra Banhart who would have Ten cc and Roxy Music as models. Before Today is the first album by Haunted Graffiti as a band, a collective extension of the psychedelic experiences in solo work. The album, with its spacey production, contains not a single track devoid of an euphoric melody, which over the course of twelve tracks is quite an achievement today. Some songs stand out, such as "Bright Lit Blue Skies," "Fright Night (Nevermore)," "Round And Round," and "Beverly Kills," all addictive little pills that stick to the neurons.
