The Complete Warner Recordings

Description

WARNER CLASSICS PUBLISHES FOR THE FIRST TIME A COMPLETE BOX SET 27CD+3DVD DEDICATED TO ZUBIN MEHTA, ONE OF THE GREATEST CONDUCTORS OF HIS GENERATION. Since his rise to international prominence, Zubin Mehta has demonstrated consummate mastery as a conductor in the concert hall, at the opera, and in the recording studio. Born in Mumbai to a Persian family. His father, a violinist, played for several years with the Hallé Orchestra under the direction of John Barbirolli and founded the Bombay Symphony Orchestra, where Zubin began his conducting career at the age of 16. In the early 50s, Zubin went to complete his training in Vienna, where he was influenced by the interpretations of Bruno Walter, Karl Bohm, and Herbert von Karajan. He has built close relationships with the world's greatest orchestras and notably held long tenures as music director of the New York Philharmonic and the Israel Philharmonic. These two ensembles make a substantial contribution to this collection of 27 CDs and 3 DVDs, as does violinist Itzhak Perlman, one of Mehta's closest colleagues since the 1960s. The recordings, made between 1967 and 2000, encompass the orchestral, choral, lyrical, and sung repertoire of the 19th and 20th centuries. His discographic legacy at Warner Classics includes, among others, Sibelius's Symphony No. 2, Holst's The Planets, Carmina Burana, as well as recordings with the great violinists Itzhak Perlman and Maxim Vengerov, not to mention a legendary complete recording of Aida with Birgit Nilsson, Grace Bumbry, and Franco Corelli, and the global bestseller that was the Three Tenors concert in 1994.
