Symphonie n°1 Titan

Description

Like Thomas Hengelbrock, he chose to include the famous Blumine, which appeared in the symphony’s original draft and which the composer later removed. The rustic palette and the wonderfully individualized instruments that delight us from the very first movement (Langsam) stand in contrast to the usual, often Germanic versions, drawing closer to Kubelik and a certain Bohemian spirit" - Thierry Soveaux / Diapason March 2015 - The world premiere of Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 took place on November 20, 1889 at the Vigadó Concert Hall in Budapest, conducted by the 29-year-old composer and performed by the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra. The symphony was originally in five movements, but Mahler made many major revisions and changes in the following years, until the piece reached its final four-movement form. It was this version, performed in Berlin in 1896, that eventually became known worldwide. Although the score of the world premiere was lost, a five-movement version still exists. The Blumine movement from this version was inserted as the second movement in the final version, and it is in this form that Zoltán Kocsis conducted the symphony heard on this CD.
