Beethoven transcribed by Liszt and the talent of Yuri Martynov. Transcribing was just as much a way for Franz Liszt to celebrate Beethoven’s genius as to meditate on his work. It was also a way of bringing about an almost titanic confrontation between the pianist’s means and his instrument, and the immensity of the orchestra’s possibilities. The power of the performer’s thought, his understanding of the essence of the work, then become the crucial issue of the approach, of the adventure offered to the listener. For the third volume of his complete recording of Beethoven’s symphonies transcribed by Franz Liszt, Yury Martynov chose a 1867 piano made by Blüthner, whose instruments Liszt particularly appreciated. The fourth and fifth volumes of this complete set will be released respectively in early 2015 and early 2016. Yury Martynov will also record, on a modern piano, a Prokofiev album that will be released on Zig-Zag Territoires during the second half of 2014.
