Barter 6

Description

Little known until recently, Atlanta rapper Young Thug has managed the feat of rising in just three years to become the most eagerly awaited outlaw in the Georgian scene, which regularly gives rise to the geniuses of modern rap. For this Barter 6, he is the genius: abstract, lunar, blending the lines of rap and singing; the release is lifted by lunar codas, soft accidents that sketch out a drugged, slow, and limp cosmos. Broken slang, with no structure or coherent discourse: Young Thug looks at his (gun) pumps but reaches the stars with his singular diction, pierced by shouts and whispers, words of love and words of war, chronic depressions and botched friendships. Lazy and yet invigorating, touching and repulsive in the same breath, Barter 6 is a deranged, wavering record that moves forward in convulsions, like the erratic beating of a broken heart.
