The 40-year friendship between two titans of music, John Williams and Yo-Yo Ma, reaches a new peak with "A Gathering of Friends". The warmth and incredible brilliance of composer and conductor John Williams are felt throughout this album, which includes both his concert music (a newly revised Cello Concerto) and his legendary film scores, including a powerful new arrangement of the theme from "Schindler's List", performed by Yo-Yo Ma and the renowned New York Philharmonic. Another highlight from John Williams’ film music catalog is Yo-Yo Ma’s interpretation of "With Malice Toward None", an inviting and stirring melody from the film "Lincoln", inspired by Abraham Lincoln’s second inaugural address. Among the other artists and friends are the virtuoso Spanish guitarist Pablo Sainz Villegas, who performs a delicate cello/guitar arrangement of "A Prayer for Peace", from the film "Munich", and Boston Symphony Orchestra harpist Jessica Zhou, who performs "Highwood's Ghost".
