AN ELECTRONIC JOURNEY THROUGH CORSICA FOR MULTI-INSTRUMENTALIST JEAN DASSO'S DEBUT ALBUM FT. ALUNA PROJECT, EL BÚHO, HAJNA, MINA SHANKAOstriconi is the debut album from French multi-instrumentalist Jean Dasso, better known as Yeahman, and its early 2021 release on New York-based Wonderwheel Recordings is guaranteed to kick off the new year with a touch of dreamy finesse. The album is named after Corsica’s Ostriconi valley, and across its 9 melodic tracks, listeners are transported to the lush, picturesque banks of the valley’s eponymous river. On Ostriconi, the region’s sometimes surreal beauty and tranquility are sonically recreated by Yeahman and his collaborators. The album guides us through a melancholic journey from mystical mountains to the vibrant sea, giving us the impression that a diverse and expanding world lies at our feet. The album's recording and production are the product of Dasso’s singular artistic vision. They give musical form to the artistic alliances he forged between Toulouse, Dakar, Naples, and Marseille. Yeahman shares his first opus as a kind of invitation to reunite in a sleeping world, where we all still aspire for the flames of the dancefloor to rekindle. The magnificent and languid opener "Deelalhli" marks the beginning of a rhythmic journey with vivid melodies and sets the tone that will be explored throughout the rest of the album. This is followed by an ode to nature with "Baixi Baixi" before "Soupe Feu" brings us back to Yeahman's roots in a percussive, sample-based dancefloor track. The lead single "Sakoneta" elevates the tempo before "Ouloullou" and "Sueño Contigo" slowly bring us back to earth, a passage that culminates beautifully with the introspective and thrilling "GLI-F4". Mina Shankha, Hajna, and Yeahman then join forces to rework a classic of Peruvian cumbia "Cariñito". The album ends with "Lecce74" featuring El Buho, this last song is a melancholic ode that brings us back to reality and puts a beautiful bow on the electric journey that is Ostriconi.
