Colin Newman (vocals, guitar), Graham Lewis (bass and vocals), Robert Grey (drums) and Matthew Simms (guitars) make up the band Wire, one of the very few to have built so long on British rock. This cult band has gone through major phases of British rock: punk, post-punk, alternative rock, art-rock, experimental rock, shoegaze tinged with electro. The London quartet has lost none of its original identity while finding a way to innovate in sound. This fourteenth studio album exudes a certain freshness. Solidly anchored by drums and bass, the binary grooves form the foundations of highly creative motifs emerging from the guitars and thick textural layers, always in service of the frontman’s relatively understated voice. The song form is never neglected, and Wire continues to unfurl its guiding thread ad infinitum.
