Following his album "Impressões" dedicated to South American music in 2008 under the SONY label, Wilhem Latchoumia wanted to delve deeper into the piano music of Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos, with his monumental production. This album traverses the various influences of the composer, from "Saudade" as a kind of melancholy unique to Brazil to the virtuosic and complex "Rudepoêma" dedicated to pianist Arthur Rubinstein, while also touching on the Cirandas (Brazilian nursery rhymes) tinged with folklore from multiple roots.
An essential figure in 20th-century Brazilian music, an instinctive creator with a lush imagination, both provocative and conformist, a hero of contrast and surprise, Heitor Villa-Lobos managed to forge a personal style by anchoring his language in the melodic and rhythmic traditions of Brazil, enriching it with all the innovations found in his contemporaries.
Villa-Lobos calls upon both the spirits of ancestors and the vital forces of the nature of his native Brazil, hence the nickname "white Indian" that was given to him.
Protean, his music captivates with the diversity of its aesthetic orientations that exalt his ardent patriotism and find expression in vast epic frescoes or, conversely, in delightful and spicy miniatures.
