Whiplash is an American thrash and speed metal band, originally from Passaic, New Jersey.
The band was formed in 1984 in Passaic, New Jersey by the three Tonys, Tony Portaro (vocals, guitar), Tony Scaglione (drums), and Tony Bono (bass). In 1986, Joe Cangelosi replaced Tony Scaglione, who left to join Slayer after Dave Lombardo's departure. Joe Cangelosi recorded Ticket to Mayhem in 1987, with the two Tonys before joining the German thrash metal band Kreator in 1994. He would record Cause for Conflict in 1995 still with Kreator. In 1989, Glenn Hanson joined the band as the new singer. He participated in the album Insult to Injury before the band broke up. In 1996, the band reformed, bringing together the three Tonys to release two new albums and broke up two years later.
The band reformed again in 2007 with Tony Portaro and Tony Scaglione. Bassist Tony Bono passed away in 2002 at the age of 38. David DeLong has replaced him since 2011.
This box set includes the 3 albums recorded between 1985 and 1990 for the ROADRUNNER Records label.
