Description
Katie Crutchfield, under the name Waxahatchee, recorded her first album during a snowstorm in the winter of 2012. She dedicated it "to everyone who woke up realizing their identity is blurry, who had to awkwardly get to know themselves, who hit rock bottom, who felt undervalued and lost, and to everyone who went through an extremely difficult time." She titled it American Weekend. She hears "American Weekend" in the same way Kurt Cobain heard "Teen Spirit," less a social construct than a natural phenomenon. It is a lo-fi masterpiece in the vein of Lou Barlow and the Softies.
