WARNING releases their second album almost exactly one year after their first, this time dressed in red. Against a blood-colored background, the metal rooster illustrated on the cover, a sort of Robocop of the henhouse with sharp, protruding spurs, could have taken down the first scorpions that passed by... It's no surprise with Dieter DERKS at the helm. The band pushes the formula of the previous album a bit further. With tracks like ROCK CITY, COMMANDO, and SERIE NOIRE, the first half of the record is almost entirely dedicated to pure and hard Heavy Metal. Raphaël GARRIDO draws from the clichés of our favorite genre (sex, drugs, satanism, delinquency, and rock n’ roll…) to imagine small scenarios that are as subtle as they are mysterious. Raphaël could have written for the real SERIE NOIRE! Because WARNING asserts its firepower here (the arrival of a new rhythm section led by Gerald MANCEAU and Michel AYME surely plays a part), the A side of this second record may seem a bit less daring than the previous album, but the band nonetheless breaks new ground. FIRE FIRE indeed announces the beginnings of speed metal, which was still very underground at the time. The guitar chorus of this track is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful gifts from Christophe AUBERT. SPEED MOI ensures the transition to a B side that is more rock n’ roll but also more adventurous. The fabulous BAHAMAS MEMORIAL, a kind of Heavy rock tinged with Blues, all metallized in the WARNING style (whose wonderful intro flirts with the boogie swing of Billy GIBBONS!), brings a Californian hue that was previously unseen in the band's repertoire. The harder-than-Metal compositions STRANGE WAY OF LOVE and SEXY LUBIE overflow with surprising ideas. Album II reaches its peak with PLANET REVERSE and its cascade of sunny riffs and paradoxically impenetrable lyrics. The band even uses a vocoder, or a synthesizer of the same kind as Neil YOUNG during the TRANSE period… if that’s not bold, what is?
