Warda "The Algerian Rose" was born in Paris in 1939 to a Lebanese mother and an Algerian father, and she passed away on May 17, 2012, in Cairo (Egypt). She remains one of the three great Arab divas alongside Oum Kalthoum and Fairuz, also embracing a career as an actress. A superstar in the Arab world, where she sold millions of records starting her career at a young age, she became famous in Lebanon and then in Egypt, following in the footsteps of Oum Kalthoum, after being exiled from France due to the events of the Algerian War. By marrying composer Baligh Hamdi, Warda then worked with the greatest Arab composers. She is still adored today.
