Dixit Dominus Magnificat

Description

After several records with Ricercar and a first record with Alpha, Actus Tragicus, dedicated to Bach's early cantatas, "of a depth, purity, and stunning beauty" (ffff Télérama), Lionel Meunier and his ensemble Vox Luminis dedicate this new project to two demonstration pieces by Handel and Bach.
Both born in 1685, the former made the journey to Italy in 1707 and strongly impressed Rome during the premiere of his Dixit Dominus, while the latter demonstrated all his talent as a composer in the Magnificat between 1723 and 1732-35. Two works at the heart of the Belgian ensemble's repertoire, here again vocal and instrumental, well-versed in baroque rhetoric, both in style and expression.
