For this brand new release, the choir Vox Clamantis under the direction of Jaan-Eik Tulve turns its attention to the world of Norwegian composer Henrik Ødegaard through a refined program composed of liturgical choral pieces. In a subtle blurring, Ødegaard's compositions blend elements borrowed from Gregorian chant with Norwegian folk songs. The composer uses Gregorian and Easter hymns as a kind of original material from which he draws and develops his own layers and polyphonic extensions. Here, the eight parts of Meditations over St. Mary Magdalene's Feast in Nidaros, based on antiphons found in a 13th-century Scandinavian medieval manuscript, form the heart of this new record. Ødegaard's compositional process transfigures these antiphons delicately highlighted by Vox Clamantis. This new album was recorded at St. Nicholas Dome in Haapsalu, Estonia in March 2021.
