To celebrate the 20th anniversary of "Dirty Old Hip Hop," this reissue of Marc Mac's Visioneers project highlights the work of the 4Hero producer, who focuses here on creating tracks meant to evoke the original spirit of iconic samples - used by hip-hop producers such as J Dilla, Pete Rock, and Jazzy Jeff. The track "Runnin'" perfectly illustrates this concept with undeniable charm: Marc Mac manages to combine the "outsider" spirit of the eponymous track by The Pharcyde and the essence of the original sample, taken from 60s Brazilian jazz. This year 2026 marks the 20th anniversary of "Dirty Old Hip Hop"; we celebrate it with the reissue of what is now considered an essential classic. Originally released in 2006 and nominated for the Worldwide Awards, this album is a masterful collection of tracks by Marc Mac (from the group 4hero). Surrounded by musicians Somatik and Luke Parkhouse as well as rappers Voice and Capital A, Marc reinvented the breaks and hip-hop beats to integrate them into grooves that pay homage to the source tracks from which these beats were originally drawn. This resolutely post-modern approach has given birth to a timeless album, capable of transcending eras while offering a sound that is both fresh and familiar.
