Incantation

Description

The incantation holds many mysteries: repeated, recited, whispered, it leads to trance, charms, enchants, even bewitches. The violinist Virgil Boutellis-Taft proposes here to unveil its secret powers, those that reside in the fascinating song of his instrument. Sometimes violent and feverish, as in the Danse macabre by Camille Saint-Saëns, sometimes caressing and undulating, in Bruch or Tchaikovsky, the incantation traverses the entire history, from the baroque era (with the mysterious Chaconne by Vitali) to the pinnacle of cinema, with the "Theme of Yumeji," taken from the film In the Mood for Love. Religious, vengeful, magical, even malevolent, it has continually inspired composers to create their most magnetic works. Virgil Boutellis-Taft offers a high-flying performance, accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Jac Van Steen, for a crazy and magical album.
