viragezero was born on a Sunday evening in December, on the way back from a Chris Cohen concert at the Face Z festival. In the Geneva cold, the desire arose to create a new collective space, nourished by the long drifts of kosmische musik. Initially conceived as a parallel playground uniting the duo of Citron Citron, two former members of L’Éclair, and musicians from Magic & Naked, the project quickly found its own gravity. This self-titled debut album sketches a world that is both familiar and distorted, where the landscapes of everyday life slowly tilt towards something more unstable. Through tracks infused with nervous synths, rhythms inherited from trip hop and 90s abstract hip hop, hazy guitars, and shifting electronic textures, viragezero constructs a music in suspension. A music that progresses as much through sensation as through structure, where tensions rise without quite exploding, like a dream from which one struggles to awaken. The lyrics of Zoé Sjollema occupy a central place in this feeling of floating. Built from fragments of dreams noted upon waking over several years, they develop an instinctive writing where reality seems to constantly lose its stability. Emptiness, wandering, exhaustion, or the feeling of being out of sync with the world permeate the entire album, without ever becoming completely frontal. The tracks advance more like mental states, spaces where emotions take the form of shifting landscapes, diffuse tensions, or distorted memories. Beneath its hazy textures and hypnotic rhythms, viragezero also speaks of a form of contemporary solitude, the feeling of going in circles, of searching for an exit without ever truly reaching it. Yet amid this instability, there also emerges a desire to let go, to drift, to momentarily disappear into something larger than oneself. Without ever falling into classic narrative writing, viragezero works instead through impressions, repetitions, and sensory shifts. The album unfolds like a nocturnal journey, between dull anxiety and contemplative surrender, where each track seems to open a new mental space. Blending dream pop, electronica, IDM, and spectral songwriting, viragezero delivers a dense and instinctive debut album, capable of being both contemplative, abrasive, and deeply immersive. A nocturnal, haunting, and vibrant record that transforms fragments of reality into shifting sound material.
