How to live without the music of Mozart? He has the power to change our lives, our view of the world. Mozart is a necessity. As children, we already listened to him, and this growing connection lent itself particularly well to the game of dreaming. Who has never whispered to themselves, "What if...?" We imagined Wolfgang traveling to Japan.
This uchronia gave us the idea to marry our instruments with the koto, a traditional Japanese instrument, to unite the two piano quartets with transcriptions of the overtures of his operas and pieces specifically written for this project by two great Japanese composers.
This journey allows us to take an open look at this Japan so little known in Mozart's time, thanks to five imaginary letters penned by the erudite and whimsical writer Richard Collasse, author of the Dictionnaire amoureux du Japon and novels set there.
Finally, this strange odyssey testifies to the infinite source of inspiration that Mozart offers in artistic creation, with illustrations by Setsuko Klossowska de Rola and those made by her late husband, the painter Balthus, for the sets of Cosi fan tutte in 1959.
