This recital of Alkan's works presents some of the composer's most original and eccentric works, not necessarily of epic proportions (like his 12 Etudes in the minor key Op. 39), but often on a small scale, frantically focusing on a single idea, creating a hallucinatory and fascinating effect (or simply hilarious...). The flagship piece, Chanson de la folle au bord de la mer, created in a few minutes and a few notes of a deep sense of alienation.
