Bach à Weimar Œuvres d’orgue dans leur version originale
Description
In Weimar, Bach composed most of his organ works. Thirty years later, at the end of his life, he chose several of these pieces to rework them and thus give birth to the famous Leipzig Chorales. Bach spent almost as much time, in his work as a composer, revising, modifying, and adapting existing works as he did writing new ones. Very surprising to our ears, which seek in the final version of a piece the perfect completion of the work, the release on the same disc of the so-called “original” version and the “final” version reveals a total harmony between the old and the new: the earlier versions thus take on great importance; they are in no way drafts or attempts preceding a definitive form, they belong to a whole that expresses a period of musical life, a very strong stylistic coherence. Just like the overall feeling given by this bringing together of the new and the old, the effect produced by each piece proves highly surprising; they bring the “Bach of Weimar” to life for us, and let us discover a Bach full of youthful ardor. Vincent Genvrin, a student of Jean Boyer and Xavier Darasse (Lyon), is organist of the Cliquot organ at Saint-Nicolas-des-Champs in Paris, and organ professor at the CNR in Dieppe.
