Description

The young Icelandic pianist, Víkingur Ólafsson, unveils his first album under the famous yellow label and dedicates it to the piano works of Philip Glass. Thanks to his combination of passionate musicality, explosive virtuosity, and intellectual curiosity, the pianist has won all the major awards in his home country, including four Musician of the Year Awards at the Icelandic Music Awards as well as the Icelandic Optimism Award. A graduate of the Juilliard School, to date, Víkingur has created 5 piano concertos and worked with composers such as Philip Glass, Mark Simpson, and Daníel Bjarnason. He has also collaborated with leading artists in various fields and led projects with other musicians such as violinists Sayaka Shoji and Pekka Kuusisto, cellist István Várdai, Martin Fröst, and Björk.
