Longtime collaborators, Sandrine Piau and Véronique Gens dreamed of recording together. Here, they pay tribute to two singers born just a year apart, Mme Dugazon (1755-1821) and Mme Saint-Huberty (1756-1812): both triumphed in Paris, inspiring numerous librettists and composers, with Gluck even nicknaming Saint-Huberty Madame-la-Ressource, while Dugazon became a generic name for the roles of the naive lover and later the comic mother. Rivals? Very likely, given the contentious spirit of the lyrical world at the time, even though they never crossed paths on stage… Blending arias and duets, Piau and Gens embody the heroines of Gluck, Grétry, Monsigny, J.-C. Bach, Piccinni, Edelmann, and Cherubini… Developed in collaboration with the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles, this program straddling classicism and pre-romanticism is at the heart of the repertoires championed by the Concert de la Loge of Julien Chauvin.
