Vanilla Fudge (1967-1970) has been cited as one of the few American links between psychedelia and what became heavy metal. After forming the hard rock/metal bands Cactus (1970) and Beck, Bogert & Appice (1972), founding members of Vanilla Fudge, Tim Bogert and Carmine Appice, reunited the band, resulting in 'Mystery' (with Jeff Beck, who was invited under the name J. Toad). 'Mystery' contains only 2 covers and 8 original songs by Vanilla Fudge. “My World Is Empty” by the Supremes and an excellent version of Dionne Warwick's hit “Walk On By.” 'Mystery' is a sonic masterpiece. The songs are powerful, filled with emotion, and Fudge has never sounded better with Carmine Appice's hard-hitting drums and his great voice. “Mystery” never feels dated!
