Everyone who knows Touch The Lock, UTO's debut album released in 2022 and praised by Pitchfork for its "prismatic synth pop," is aware of the varied nature of their work. This album is just as colorful, with Neysa's vocal work bearing similarities to the quirky voices of Kim Gordon, both of which they ceremoniously blend in a post-electronica mixer combining stylized indie sleaze productions with 90s breakbeats.
Although they may appear as a single entity to others, UTO wrote large sections of this album separately, gathering around the fire to discuss the day's work before coming together to refine and finish the songs. 2023 has been, by their own admission, a difficult year, and this is reflected in the themes of Dantean inspiration expressed in songs such as the lead single "Zombie," which arrived at the end of November as a taste of the new album; the dark heart of this latter is contradicted by the shimmering rhythms, glitchy electronics, and punchy sequencers that elevate it from the void. From fire, the discovery of early man, to AI, the next great adventure of humanity, through all the wonders and complexities of human relationships, All We Want To Do Is Be The Fire Part Of Fire truly speaks of life, the universe, and everything.
