Since emerging from the Greek catacombs, UNVERKALT has constantly pushed boundaries. The band's third album, ‘Héréditaire,’ doesn't just continue this evolution; it delves into the heart of its inner darkness. While grappling with the weight of a cursed history, ‘Héréditaire’ stands as an intense and poignant work.
UNVERKALT remains faithful to a cinematic vision of metal. Like a revelation, the standout track, “Die Auslöschung,” emerges from a slow mist before being brutally ripped from its torpor by incandescent blast beats. While previous albums drew inspiration from French painting and European film noir, ‘Héréditaire’ unveils the darkness. “Oath Ov Prometheus” deconstructs the myth of man, a perfect divine creation, thanks to Dimitra Kalavrezou’s dark and captivating voice. ‘Héréditaire’ marks an exciting new stage for UNVERKALT, yet the album nevertheless draws its roots from our deepest and darkest origins. Under an relentless bassline, “Introjects” reveals beliefs that were never our own, but have been passed down from generation to generation like a disease. Kalavrezou's clear and mysterious voice remains one of the band's hallmarks, but her contempt for those who watch the world burn is all the more fervent when intertwined with the voice of Sakis Tolis from Rotting Christ on the monolithic track “I, The Deceit.” With ‘Héréditaire,’ UNVERKALT lifts the veil on our cursed existence with its most intense and sincere work.
