The Road: Part II / Lost Highway reveals the sound of an artist in constant evolution. As one of the pioneers of trip-hop and a cornerstone of street culture, James Lavelle has spent 25 years cultivating a colorful universe of music, art, technology, and fashion through the Mo’Wax brand. He ended a seven-year silence with the release of The Road: Part I in 2017. The second part surely offers his most varied work to date: "I started doing a show on Soho Radio last year, which led me to play records in a completely different way. It was no longer about trying to make people dance in clubs; it was a real breath of fresh air." Inspired by this experience, The Road: Part II is a travel mixtape, a road trip that begins at dawn and extends into the night. Lavelle continues: "This is the second part of a trilogy. The first album is the moment when you leave home, naive and eager for discovery. This album represents the journey, on the road, with its ups and downs, love, losses, experiences. The third album to come will evoke the return home... wherever that may be." The album features numerous guests: Mick Jones (The Clash), Tom Smith (Editors), Leila Moss (The Duke Spirit), Mark Lanegan, Keaton Henson, Jon Theodore, and Troy Van Leeuwen (Queens of the Stone Age), Ysée (singer with Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds), Tessa Angus (collaborator of Brian Eno), producers Justin Stanley and ChrissGoss, BOC, Philip Sheppard, and John Isaac. The voices of Scottish actor Brian Cox and Christiana, the widow of Stanley Kubrick, can also be heard, but especially the Montreal singer and producer Miink and rapper Elliott Power.
