Rather than telling their story on a screen or a page, Uniform tells it on their fourth album, 'Shame'. The trio - Michael Berdan (vocals), Ben Greenberg (guitar, production), and Mike Sharp (drums) - have woven their struggles through grinding guitars, distorted electronic elements, shredded percussion, and catchy vocals. Formed in 2013, Uniform bulldozed their way to the forefront of underground music. After three albums, Perfect World (2015), Wake in Fright (2017), The Long Walk (2018), two collaborative albums with The Body - 'Mental Wounds Not Healing' (2018) and 'Everything That Dies Someday Comes Back' (2019) - and a live album, 'Live at the End of the World' (2020), when it came time to write Shame, Michael made a conscious decision to include lyrics, a first. This album marks the debut of Mike Sharp on drums, adding a natural fire to the endeavor. His presence amplifies their industrial and metallic side with a maelstrom of live percussion. Once again, Ben Greenberg produced the album from his studio, Stranger Weather. Building on the approach of their previous album, the band has refined their digital and analog, electronic and acoustic, synthetic and contemporary hybridity, which has become their trademark. In another first, the mixing was not handled by Greenberg but by the inimitable Randall Dunn, in his Circular Ruin studio, who pushed the boundaries of their sound, giving Uniform their most powerful album to date.
