Rather than telling his story on a screen or on a page, Uniform tells it on their fourth album, 'Shame'. The trio - Michael Berdan (vocals), Ben Greenberg (guitar, production) and Mike Sharp (drums) - have blended their struggles through screeching guitars, distorted electronic elements, torn-up percussion and catchy vocals. Formed in 2013, Uniform have bulldozed a path to the forefront of underground music. After three albums, Perfect World (2015), Wake in Fright (2017), The Long Walk (2018), two collaborative albums with The Body - 'Mental Wounds Not Healing' (2018) and 'Everything That Dies Someday Comes Back' (2019) - and a live album, 'Live at the End of the World' (2020), when it came time to write Shame, Michael made a conscious decision to include lyrics, a first. This album marks Mike Sharp’s debut on drums, adding a natural fire to the affair. His presence oppresses their industrial and metallic side with a maelstrom of live percussion. Once again, Ben Greenberg produced the album from his studio, Stranger Weather. Building on the approach of their previous album, the band refined their digital and analog, electronic and acoustic, synthetic and contemporary hybridity, which has become their trademark. Another first, the mixing was not handled by Greenberg but by the inimitable Randall Dunn, in his Circular Ruin studio, who pushed the limits of their sound, giving Uniform their most powerful album to date.
