Tyler Bates has established himself as one of the major figures in contemporary film music, recognized for his orchestral and orchestral-rock scores in science fiction and horror. Since his debut in independent cinema in the mid-1990s, he has made a name for himself in Hollywood with Get Carter (2000), Dawn of the Dead (2004), and Watchmen (2009), racking up collaborations with Zack Snyder, Rob Zombie, and James Gunn. In the 2010s, he scored blockbusters such as Guardians of the Galaxy, the John Wick trilogy, Deadpool 2, and Hobbs & Shaw. At the same time, Bates has undertaken numerous television projects (Californication, The Punisher, The Purge) and video games (Watchmen, Transformers, Killzone, God of War). A guitarist and producer, he has also left his mark on alternative rock, notably by accompanying Marilyn Manson on stage and in the studio between 2014 and 2018. His versatility has led him to work on albums by Bush and Jerry Cantrell (Alice in Chains), while continuing his career as a film composer. Born in Los Angeles in 1965 and raised in Chicago, Bates was exposed to musical diversity at an early age by his mother. After a first band, Pet, whose album was produced by Tori Amos in 1996, he dedicated himself entirely to composing film scores from the late 1990s onwards. Recently, he has scored the soundtracks for Ti West's horror trilogy (X, Pearl, MaXXXine) as well as John Wick: Chapter Four, confirming his status as an essential big-screen composer.
