It may seem a bit mysterious today, but in 1980, in Giscard’s France, it made sense: middle school playgrounds were split in two. On one side, the fans of Téléphone, rather “bourgeois.” On the other, the fans of Trust, much more “working class.” One foot in punk, the other in massive hard boogie (largely inspired by AC/DC), Bernie, Nono and the others found, as early as the late 70s, an unbeatable formula: razor-sharp rock paired with violent lyrics about politicians, the military, unions, justice and even the ayatollahs! An entire generation, generally from underprivileged backgrounds, would follow these authentic rockers like one man and hum “Saumur, the bastion of filth” or “antisocial, you lose your cool” until they lost their voices. A French band unlike any other!
