TROUNCE is a project led by Jonathan Nido (Coilguns), the founder and director of Hummus Records. He wrote the songs in 2020 while working on Coilguns' fourth album and decided to create a side project to balance that meticulous process.
Initially inspired by Dark Funeral's "Diabolis Interium" album, Nido programmed blastbeats and recorded guitar riffs without overthinking it.
Last November, he gathered a band around him to answer the invitation of the Roadburn Festival, which commissioned Jonathan to create a special set for the festival.
The band includes Anna Sauter-McDowell (Yrre) on noises and satanic whispers, Lea Martinez (Etienne Machine) on synthesizers and vocals, Luc Hess (Coilguns) on drums, and Naser Sulejmani (Yrre) on guitar. Renaud Meichtry (Kruger), also employed at Hummus Records, handles lyrics and vocals. Kevin Galland, who is the bassist for Coilguns and sound engineer for various bands on the label, takes care of recording, mixing, and live sound.
Guillaume Ducommun plays the role of the 8th band member by bringing his uncompromising and minimalistic vision of stage lighting.
The project serves as a "sandbox" for Jonathan Nido's artistic deviations, and the band aims to offer a complete experience, from studio to stage.
With photographs by Roberto Romano and illustrations by Bryan Maita, Trounce also offers a very dark but beautiful visual landscape to complement their work. Side A:
