This second recording of our anniversary season sheds light on a Belgian composer who is far too little known: Désiré Pâque. A precursor to Arnold Schönberg, his musical style is characterized by the use of an almost atonal polytonality, without confining itself to any one musical system. In terms of form, he is the inventor of a construction process he himself called "constant adjunction," which consists of a permanent thematic expansion, in other words the constant addition of new musical ideas that are not subject to development, transformation, or return. But what must above all be remembered about the music of Désiré Pâque is its passionate temperament, which is constantly expressed.
