Trios avec piano

Description

Following their complete recording of Brahms’s Trios, the Trio Smetana turns to the 20th century. Maurice Ravel’s Trio is a little gem, whose motif recalls the composer’s Basque origins and partly echoes the Concerto he was working on at the same time. Shostakovich’s Trio in E minor is full of invention and contrasts, and the Trio No. 1 in one movement is a work of surprising maturity for a 17-year-old composer. These three pieces are performed in the finest possible manner by the Czech trio at the top of its form.
