Le Trio Khaldei offers an interesting reflection between the trios of Shostakovich and those of Prokofiev. Shostakovich's First Piano Trio (op. 8) is a true work of youth (the composer was only 17 years old!), imbued with the romanticism and passion of a first love story. There is little of this romantic momentum in the Second Piano Trio (op. 67), which was born from his confrontation with war.
