Pirchner : Trios pour piano

Werner Pirchner had a career as a vibraphonist and jazz keyboardist, performing among others at Montreux, before dedicating himself entirely to composition in the last fifteen years of his life. He became known in his native Austria with the creation of the jingle for the Ö1 cultural radio broadcasts. The entirety of these piano trios, known as the "Trilogy of Difficult Life," is presented here in a world premiere. Each piece bears a title that questions humanity's relationship with time, meaning, and its homeland, and is distinguished by a particular atmosphere (quite rhythmic and danceable, then dark, then repetitive around a central theme). The music is accessible, combining a very jazzy piano part with a classical, sober, and fairly popular violin-cello line. The Eggner brothers had multiple opportunities to present these works in concert before proceeding with their recording. This gives mastery, substance, and coherence to music that cannot be classified as major. Booklet in English and German only. (Thierry Jacques Collet)
