Saudades

Description

This double album features three exceptional musicians, Jack DeJohnette, John Scofield, and Larry Goldings, revisiting a musical period that is of great importance to them (the meeting of jazz and rock), and commemorating the life and work of Tony Williams, one of the pioneers of the electric jazz movement... All of this with the inspiration of the venue and the audience at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London.
Jack Dejohnette succeeded Tony Williams in Miles Davis's band in 1969. In the following year, Miles Davis recorded two of the projects that changed the course of jazz history: ‘Bitches Brew’ and ‘Emergency’ with Tony Williams's Lifetime group. The Trio Beyond (organ/guitar/drums) echoes Lifetime (composed of L.Young/J.McLaughlin/T.Williams), which was at the origin of electric jazz and jazz-rock. The musicians revisit some of the themes from the Lifetime repertoire (Emergency, Spectrum, Big Nick, and Allah be praised), as well as some of Tony Williams's themes when he played with Miles Davis (Seven Steps To Heaven, I fall in Love Too Easily, and Pee Wee).
This program is completed by group improvisations, a track by Larry Goldings 'As One', and Joe Henderson's If.
