Variations Goldberg

Description

J.S. Bach was at the crossroads of our three musical paths. He sealed our meeting, both a starting point and a destination. Such is his music, it brings together beyond schools and styles, it is timeless but opens the door to perpetual renewal. To this jewel of his work that are the Goldberg Variations, we wanted to offer a setting, that of the rich and vibrant sound of the string trio. There are many adaptations of the Goldberg Variations. Over time, versions multiply, such as Busoni's for piano, which cuts parts without hesitation and adds a coda of his own, while Max Reger offers a version for two pianos. The trio of Jacques Loussier provides a good example of a revision in a jazz style. Furthermore, other ensembles with guitar or harp highlight different versions, while string trios happily welcome this keyboard repertoire. Dimitri Sitkovetsky made two arrangements, the first in 1984 which he revised in 2010. In variations seven, seventeen, and twenty-seven, he proposes duets pairing the instruments in different combinations, thus surprising the listener. The transcription played by the Alpha trio wonderfully uses the richness of the string trio to create sound planes that highlight the counterpoint and make this complex writing legible.
