The Return of the Legendary Group Tower of Power With an album marking their 50th anniversary, 2018's Soul Side of Town, one might think that Tower of Power (or TOP, as their global legion of fans more often calls them) would be taking a well-deserved break. But that's not in the band's DNA, nor in that of its founder, tenor saxophonist and bandleader Emilio Castillo. Today, with their latest album Step Up available on CD and LP, the band is entering the next decade by sticking to their hardcore touring schedule (200 days a year!) and constantly reinvigorating themselves with the continuous addition of new talent, notably the phenomenal young singer Marcus Scott. The latter replaced TOP's long-time singer, Ray Greene. From the band's beginnings to Step Up, the TOP sound remains true to Emilio's original musical vision: to transcribe into a singular, emotional sound all the multidimensionality of soul music.
