Originally released by record producer Joe Boyd (Nick Drake, Richard Thompson, Pink Floyd) on Hannibal Records in 1999, this new remastered edition makes its vinyl debut. Inspired by a historic 1970 album, Ancient Strings, recorded by their fathers, Sidiki Diabaté and Djelimadi Sissoko, Toumani and Ballake set out to create their own updated version, with many songs drawn from the original repertoire. The music is entirely modern from Mali and played beautifully, making it a modern classic in its field.
