Description

A major document of European jazz from the 1970s, Balladyna has left a lasting mark on several generations of improvisers. For his ECM debut, Polish trumpeter Tomasz Stanko surrounded himself with Edward Vesala (drums), Tomasz Szukalski (saxophone) and Dave Holland (double bass). The quartet explores seven original compositions where a singular melodic voice is already asserting itself. The album is reissued in the Luminessence collection in a gatefold sleeve with new liner notes and archival photos.
