Recorded at the Muffathalle in Munich in September 2004, exactly 20 years ago, this unreleased concert by the Tomasz Stanko Quartet is a fascinating document in that it captures live this essential moment of transition during which the band embarked on an exciting evolutionary process.
Starting from the repertoire of the *Suspended Night* album, largely composed of melodic themes in the song form, to venturing into an exploration of largely improvised territories that would give birth to the *Lontano* album. In retrospect, this Munich concert sounds like the culmination of a year during which Stanko's Quartet performed a record number of concerts in both Europe and the United States. The great Polish trumpeter himself appears here at his best, demonstrating a truly charismatic power in his playing, superbly inspired by the energetic support and sense of interplay of the group composed of Marcin Wasilewski, Slawomir Kurkiewicz, and Michal Miskiewicz, these talented young musicians whom he mentored at the time. This live album was produced by Manfred Eicher.
