Tokyo Tapes

Description

While Scorpions were still slowly climbing the ladder in Europe, they were already a recognized force in Japan, and 'Virgin Killer' was the first album to go gold in the Land of the Rising Sun. It was high time for their first trip to the Far East. Four months after the release of 'Taken By Force', the band arrived in Tokyo in 1978. Four concerts were scheduled: one in Osaka, one in Nagoya, and two at the Nakano Sun Plaza in Tokyo. These two shows were recorded for the double live album 'Tokyo Tapes', which was also intended as a farewell gift to the departing Uli Jon Roth. 'Tokyo Tapes' impressively documents what has always set Scorpions apart: their exhilarating and electrifying live presence, immense joy in playing, a goosebump-inducing intimacy with their audience, and, of course, musical and technical brilliance. In Tokyo, the classic lineup, featuring two exceptional guitarists, Rudolf Schenker and Uli Jon Roth, and charismatic frontman Klaus Meine, was in the form of their lives. They played with the songs, changing them according to their mood, involving the audience, and taking the liberty to improvise. A good example is "Fly To The Rainbow." The band polishes the song as it plays, and Uli Jon Roth has a great time with his effects board. He lets the guitar roar, scream, lament, and sing, then launches into a solo that must be one of the best solos in rock history. 'Tokyo Tapes' is a formidable live album that almost perfectly captures the band's energy and enthusiasm. It offers those unfamiliar with Scorpions' early years an excellent opportunity to rediscover the great music they wrote before becoming global superstars. 'Tokyo Tapes' is now available as a double 180 gr. yellow colored gatefold vinyl. In addition to 'Tokyo Tapes', 'Fly To The Rainbow', 'In Trance', 'Virgin Killer', 'Humanity - Hour 1', 'Savage Amusement', 'Blackout', 'Lovedrive', 'World Wide Live', 'Taken By Force', 'Animal Magnetism' and 'Love At First Sting' will also be released in new colored vinyl editions.
