Waxwork Records is proud to release the original motion picture score for THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE by Tobe Hooper and Wayne Bell. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of this iconic film, the long-awaited music album is available for the first time in any format. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a 1974 American independent horror film produced, co-composed, and directed by Tobe Hooper, who co-wrote it with Kim Henkel. The plot follows a group of friends who fall victim to a family of cannibals while on their way to visit an old property. Fifty years after its release, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential horror films ever made. The film's original score, composed by Tobe Hooper and Wayne Bell, is an experimental exercise in musical composition and performance that uses non-traditional instruments such as suspended cymbals, aluminum pots, a children's percussion set, various wild animal calls, whistles, shakers, and more. The result is one of the earliest examples of industrial music and has since been considered the "Holy Grail" of film scores, as it was lost or destroyed. Hooper and Bell's innovative score thus became highly sought after, leading to countless bootlegs and attempts to recreate it for commercial purposes. With the release of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre by Tobe Hooper and Wayne Bell on Waxwork Records, this is the first time the official score is available. In 2023, the original tapes of the film's score were discovered and preserved at the Harry Ransom Center in Austin, Texas, for preservation purposes. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre co-composer Wayne Bell worked tirelessly to have these original tapes safely transferred. Bell then personally worked on constructing and mixing the newly transferred official score of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre to provide a cohesive listening experience. The score was then mastered by Thomas Dimuzio at Gench Mastering.
