In their ninth studio album, the legendary collective has set out to explore the shared sensibilities between their desert blues and the vibrant country music of rural America. Amatssou is the Tamashek term for "Beyond The Fear," and it is quite fitting. Tinariwen have always stood out for their fearlessness, inventing a guitar style that has captured the attention of the entire world. They call it ishumar or assouf ("nostalgia" in Tamashek). The rest of the world knows it as Tuareg blues. It is music imbued with sadness and nostalgia, but it is also music to dance to, to forget one’s troubles. With additional production from Daniel Lanois (U2, Bob Dylan, Peter Gabriel, Willie Nelson), Amatssou features the group's signature winding guitar lines and hypnotic grooves, which harmoniously coexist with banjos, violins, and pedal steel. Thousands of kilometers of ocean may separate these two landscapes, but the connections are as palpable as they are romantic. The first single, Tenere Den, is an exciting extension of the classic sound invented by Tinariwen.
