Caçada Noturna

The seventh album by Tiganá Santana, recorded in Serpa, Portugal, with musicians and friends Leonardo Mendes and Ldson Galter, is fundamentally an album rooted in string instruments, namely guitars and various forms of bass, thus realizing a project primarily aimed at presenting the songs Tiganá has aspired to for some time. The only track recorded in Brazil, specifically in São Paulo at Estúdio Arsis, ‘O véu’ (The Veil), features a special appearance by singer Fabiana Cozza and musician Henrique Araújo, who was invited to play the cavaco. The seven tracks that make up this seventh album in the artist's career are mostly new musical themes, with only one not composed by Tiganá. This is the title ‘Das matas’ (From the Forests), which opens the album and, composed by musician Fabrício Mota, pays tribute to the hunting deity Oxóssi. In this same piece, Tiganá recites a text of his own that dialogues with the tribute evoked by the song. Moreover, a second homage to the hunting deity (or the search in a broader sense), to which Tiganá is initiated in the candomblé religion of Congolese-Angolan lineage, appears in his own composition in the African language kikongo, ‘Nkongo’ (‘hunter’ in Portuguese), which was recorded by singer Jurema Paes on the album ‘Mestiça’ (Mixed). It is worth noting that the title of the work, ‘Caçada Noturna’ (Night Hunt), comes from the eponymous poem by poet Paulo Colina (one of Tiganá Santana's favorite poets) and aligns with the tributes to the hunting deity, as well as the poetics, tones, and subjects that touch on the nocturnal, the lunar, deep feelings, and mystery. There is only one instrumental theme, ‘Estrelas pernoitadas’ (Nocturnal Stars), which makes it an album more focused on songs, with diverse approaches and subjects. Thus, we find the songs ‘O amor simples’ (Simple Love), ‘Partes de mim’ (Parts of Me), and ‘Coração ao largo’ (Wide Heart). Visual artist Ani Ganzala is responsible for the album cover painting, which will be distributed on streaming platforms, on CD, and on vinyl worldwide. The album is produced by Leonardo Mendes, Ldson Galter, and Tiganá Santana; it was mixed and mastered by André Magalhães; the executive production is handled by Mônica Cosas; and it is distributed worldwide by the Swedish label ajabu! which has collaborated with Tiganá for over ten years. It is also important to highlight the support of the Portuguese cultural center Musibéria, where the project was realized in the city of Serpa, in Alentejo, in July 2023.
