Three years after Drunk, Thundercat returns with his turbulent groove and asserts his feline touch at the pinnacle of black music. This new album, produced jointly by Flying Lotus and Thundercat, brings together contributions from high-profile guests: Ty Dolla $ign, Childish Gambino, Lil B, Kamasi Washington, Steve Lacy from The Internet, Steve Arrington from Slave, BADBADNOTGOOD, Louis Cole, and Zack Fox. "It Is What It Is" follows the album "Drunk" released in 2017, a true turning point for Thundercat. This new album finalizes Thundercat's transformation, from his status as a recognized bass virtuoso to an authentic star with a unique and singular voice, breaking the boundaries of musical genres. Thundercat is at the "creative epicenter" of one of the most influential hip hop albums of the 21st century, "To Pimp A Butterfly" by Kendrick Lamar, with which he won a Grammy for his contribution to the track 'These Walls'. In 2018, Thundercat and Flying Lotus composed the original score for the series Atlanta, created and written by Childish Gambino and awarded a Golden Globe and an Emmy Award. The turbulent groove of the new album fully represents Thundercat's music, which is a major influence on the entire global hip hop/soul scene.
